بعد نجاح وساطة مصر والولايات المتحدة الأميركية وقطر، أعلنت الحكومة الإسرائيلية وحركة حماس في ساعات الصباح الأولى من يوم الأربعاء عن صفقة مرتقبة لتبادل المحتجزين وإعلان هدنة تستمر لمدة أربعة أيام، بهدف منح سكان قطاع غزة فرصة للتنفس بعد شهر ونصف من بداية الصراع المسلّح.
ووفقًا لبيان وزارة الخارجية القطرية سيتم زيادة عدد المفرج عنهم في مراحل لاحقة من تنفيذ الاتفاق.
وفيما يخص قائمة الفلسطينيين المرشحين للإفراج عنهم ضمن اتفاق الهدنة، كشفت وزارة العدل الإسرائيلية عن 300 اسم في القائمة، ومع ذلك، سيتم الإفراج في المرحلة الأولى عن 150 فلسطينيًا فقط.
